Lecture 7 will focus on the equation of change for isothermal systems which is easy to use for any system with momentum transfer to derive the 1st ODE.

  • The continuity equation
  • The equation of motion
  • Special Cases of Equation of Motion
    - Navier-Stokes Eqn
    - Stokes Equation
    - Euler Eqn of Inviscid Flow
This chapter aims at developing general mass balance (the continuity equation) and momentum balance equations  (equation of motion) without the need of performing shell balance. 
 

Reflection
In this lecture, I learned about the importance and uses of the continuity equation and the equation of motion. By using these equations, the process of developing the mass balance and momentum balance equation has been simplified. I believe by doing more exercises, I can be more familiar with applying the equations. Besides that, I also realize that the final equation derived using shell balance and the equation of change is the same.
